Nigerian Telecommunication Operator, 9Mobile, rebrands as T2
The rebrand is the second in the company’s history since its first launched in 2008 as Etisalat Nigeria.
Nigerian telecommunication operator, 9Mobile, has announced its rebrand as T2, as it unveiled a new brand identity at the company’s Tech Meets Tenacity event held at the Marriott Hotel in Lagos.
The rebrand, which comes a year after LH Telecommunication Limited acquired a majority stake in the network provider, is “the beginning of a bold new chapter,” said Femi Banigbe, CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), the parent company of T2.
The rebrand is the second in the company’s history since its first launched in 2008 as Etisalat Nigeria. The first rebrand from Etisalat to 9mobile happened in 2017 after the exit of its UAE-based parent company due to the company’s debt crisis.

Eight years since the rebrand to 9Mobile, the company, which is the fourth-largest telecom operator in the county, has continued to face serious challenges and struggled as it has seen a drastic fall in its subscribers—from over 22 million in its early years to about 3.2 million in January 2025, according to reports.
This rebrand, Banigbe said, goes beyond a new logo or tagline, “It is the beginning of a bold new chapter in our history. It is a declaration that we are no longer who we were, but we are becoming something greater. We are becoming something more ambitious.”
According to report, the rebrand is a key milestone within the company’s comprehensive four-phase recovery roadmap — stabilisation, modernisation, transformation, and growth. The company said it is embracing a new name, T2, and a new ambition to lead in innovation, customer experience, and digital lifestyle enablement, as it enters the ‘transformation’ phase in its recovery roadmap.
