Nigerian web hosting company, Whogohost, rebrands as GO54 in its bid to expand across the continent
The GO in GO54 pays homage to its role in making businesses ‘GO online,’ while the number 54, symbolises the company’s goal to expand its services across all 54 African countries
Last week, Whogohost, a Nigerian web hosting company, announced it is rebranding as GO54 as it seeks to expand across Africa.
Founded in 2005, Whogohost began its journey as a pioneer in African digital infrastructure, providing domains and hosting services to businesses. With over 300,000 domains registered and a customer base of over 100,000 businesses, the company says it has become a trusted partner for businesses seeking to establish their online presence.
This move to rebrand by the company comes six months after acquiring Sendchamp, a customer messaging platform, in September 2023. The company says its rebrand from Whogohost to GO54 is a move to “adapt and expand our offerings to serve the evolving needs of our customers better.”
With big ambitions to become Africa’s largest digital infrastructure company, the rebrand to GO54 is a symbol of its commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering businesses to thrive online.
“The ‘GO’ in our name pays homage to our roots, reminding us of our role as the driving force behind businesses as they venture into the online world. And the ‘54’ represents our ambitious mission to serve all 54 countries in Africa, uniting the continent in digital prosperity,” the announcement noted, explaining the rationale behind the new name.
“With this rebrand, we are not just changing our name; we are embracing a new identity that reflects our dedication to empowering businesses everywhere. From our AI-powered website builder to our email marketing, bulk SMS services, link-in-bio pages, and custom payment links, we are now a one-stop shop for all your digital needs.”
Toluwani Adejuyigbe, the CEO of GO54, said, “The name signifies two key things; our evolution beyond domains and hosting. The new name also signifies ambition. We are not just a Nigerian business. We are now building for Africa.”
“17 years later. Whogohost is shedding its old light blue skin, and taking on a new identity which reflects the new mission,” Whogohost Founder, Opeyemi Awoyemi, wrote. “On a lighter note, the consumer internet is slowly getting rid of my then super branding skills. (Fact: I designed the Whogohost logo).”
This rebrand by Whogohost sees it join the league of African companies that have made a move to rebrand - change their name and identity - in a bid to expand into new markets.
