KAFART, an Exhibition celebrating Art and Fashion in Northern Nigeria announces its 'Call for Artists' ahead of its fourth edition
The upcoming fourth edition aims to celebrate the creative processes and craftsmanship that define Northern Nigeria’s fashion and art industry, as well as the wider region.
In an open call for artists, Kaduna Fashion and Art Exhibition (KAFART) announced its invitation to artists to be a part of the forthcoming Fourth (4th) edition of KAFART, themed “Into The Art Of Making”.
The call is for “talented individuals from across northern Nigeria, as well as artists from all corners of the country and the Sahel region (Mali, Senegal, Niger, Chad, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Cameroon)” to join in the forthcoming exhibition for an unforgettable experience. Artists of various backgrounds, working with mediums such as sculpture, painting, photography, textiles, digital art, ceramics, and other craft-based art are encouraged to apply.
KAFART is an Exhibition celebrating Art and Fashion in Northern Nigeria and beyond. KAFART offers a unique opportunity for artists to engage in a vibrant and diverse artistic community. KAFART aims to establish the right channels to connect African creatives to a global audience.
According to the announcement, “This event serves as a platform for building new bridges, forging connections, and expanding networks. We believe that by coming together, we can create a powerful collective that fosters creativity, cultural exchange, and artistic growth.”
They also stated that the upcoming fourth edition “aims to celebrate the creative processes and craftsmanship that define Northern Nigeria’s fashion and art industry, as well as the wider region.”
Craftsmanship in West Africa has taken various forms over centuries and continues to evolve with modern technology. Despite changes, these practices still hold historical and cultural significance, acting as conduits of knowledge about the past. Textiles, sculptures, embroidery, and tie and dye are some examples of these practices that showcase who we are as a people, and the exhibition will emphasize their relevance and value.
It is crucial to preserve these practices for future generations, particularly in a world where much historical knowledge is disappearing. Encouraging younger generations to adopt these practices will help to prevent their loss and ensure cultural, historical, and environmental significance continues to serve as a source for grounding our values and heritage. Ultimately, the artistic practices showcased in KAFART will be celebrated, highlighted, shared, and conserved for all to appreciate.
The exhibition is set to take place in Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria from the 17th - 19th of November 2023.
About Kaduna Fashion and Art Exhibition (KAFART)
Kaduna Fashion and Art Exhibition (KAFART) was founded in Kaduna State, Nigeria, in 2019. The event was created out of a passion to improve the creative scene in northern Nigeria and beyond. The desire to bring our community together using creativity has also driven us to create KAFART.
KAFART is a platform intended to support creatives in the community by giving them the perfect platform to showcase and express themselves. The exhibition also seeks to put forth underrepresented African cultures and encourage the redefinition of history and the reinvention of a vibrant future by African creatives. The event is also geared towards encouraging creatives to be environmentally responsible and promote eco-friendly crafts and ideas that can help improve the current state of the environment.
