Art X Collective, the creator of ART X Lagos, announced it has opened applications for the 2023 edition of the Access ART X Prize, the highly coveted art prize for Nigerian artists and artists in the diaspora.
The Access ART X Prize awards early-career artists from Africa and its diaspora opportunities to develop their practices, with the intention of setting them up for the highest levels of success on the global stage.
It noted in the announcement that “this Prize has changed significantly by extending its reach beyond emerging Nigerian artists to include emerging talents from across Africa and its Diaspora.”
The prize which is sponsored by Access Corporation, the parent company of Access Bank—one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, is in partnership with Gaswork, a non-profit contemporary visual art organisation in South London, and G.A.S. Foundation, a non-profit artist residency founded by Yinka Shonibare.
Previous winners of the prize include Dafe Oboro (2022 Nigerian Winner), Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński (2022 African/Diasporan Winner), Chigozie Obi (2021), Etinosa Yvonne (2019), Bolatito Aderemi-Ibitola (2018), Habeeb Andu (2017), and Patrick Akpojotor (2016).
