The Joburg Film Festival (JFF) set to return for the sixth edition of its annual festival this February
From February 27th to March 3rd, The Joburg Film Festival, which is presented by MultiChoice, will return for its 6th edition with the theme; Inspiring storytellers: Celebrating the legends.
The Joburg Film Festival (JFF), Africa's Premiere Film Festival curating and showcasing African and international films, has announced that it will be back this year for its 6th edition with the theme; Inspiring storytellers: Celebrating the legends.
Entering its sixth year, the annual film festival, which is presented by MultiChoice in association with Absa, will bring together filmmakers, industry professionals, and cinema enthusiasts for a celebration of storytelling through the art of film from Tuesday, 27th February 2024 until Sunday, 3rd March 2024 at various locations across Joburg. “The festival is an independent platform that not only tells OUR stories but showcases and rewards excellence in film,” the organisers stated.
This year’s edition - scheduled to take place in Sandton, the heart of South Africa’s vibrant business scene - will feature a captivating lineup of screenings, discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at nurturing aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals around its four key pillars - the Industry Programme, the Youth and Audience Development Programme, the Joburg Film Society, and the JBX B2B Content Market.
With a lineup of over 60 titles from over 30 countries, the festival will showcase a diverse range of compelling films from both local and international filmmakers.
Some of the films selected as part of this year’s lineup include Perfect Days, Evil Does Not Exist, Mami Wata, Snake, Umkhonto Wesizwe – Mandela’s Secret Army, Tiger Stripes, Yellow Bus, Bye Bye Tiberia, and Life Through His Lens.

According to the organiser, the JFF Young Voice Competition, a competition that celebrates the natural creative talent of young filmmakers, will also make a return this year. “It is open to all young aspiring African filmmakers based in South Africa between the ages of 18 and 35 years,” the statement noted.
“Filmmakers are asked to create and submit their own 5-minute short film using the theme ‘The South Africa You Want to See – 30 Years on’. Three entries will be shortlisted by an esteemed panel of expert judges in the first phase with one overall winner chosen at the festival’s awards gala night on Saturday, 2nd March. The overall winner will receive a scholarship and various other incredible sponsored prizes.”
