The Next Batch: Rowland Olamide on the inspiration behind Batch's first community project and collaborating with Tendril
In October, Batch, a community of young motion designers from all across Africa, released a film introducing its community, marking an exciting new chapter in its story.
The film, which was made in collaboration with Tendril, a leading studio based in Toronto, is the community’s first collaborative project.
In a conversation with The Creatives Note, Rowland Olamide, founder of Batch and creative director for the project, talks about the inspiration behind the project, how the collaboration with Tendril came about, and the process of bringing the film to life.
Nigerian Animation School holds its inaugural Graduation Ceremony
Last December, Magic Lab Academy, an internationally accredited animation school in Nigeria, held its first-ever graduation ceremony at the Alliance Française, Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the academy, 62 students, who are poised to transform Africa’s animation and storytelling landscape, graduated during its inaugural graduation ceremony.

Album Cover Bank launches improved filter experience for easier exploration of the archive
Last month, Independent Arts, a studio dedicated to passion projects, announced the launch of a significant update to Album Cover Bank, a digital archive showcasing over 5,300 Nigerian album covers from 1980 to the present day.
The update, it says, “makes it easier for users to explore the vast history of Nigerian music and graphic design.”
“With this update, users can quickly and efficiently access specific album covers and historical information, streamlining their journey through the archive,” Samson Oyedija, one of the archive custodians, wrote.
Designer loses a 3-month contract after sharing the project 'without client's knowledge'; where does the law stand on copyright?
In November, a visual content creator on X shared how a client terminated a 3-month contract he had with them after he shared a design he made for them ‘without their knowledge’.
This post sparked a conversation on who owns the copyright to a design. In this piece, we look at what the law says about ownership, transfer and licences of creative works.
Winners at the 2024 Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival (LAIF) Awards Night
In November, the Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival (LAIF) Awards Night, an annual award ceremony that seeks to recognise and promote creative excellence in Advertising & Marketing Communications, was held in Lagos.
The event, organised by the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), the umbrella body that coordinates and promotes the interest of Advertising Agencies in Nigeria, took place at The Hall, Victoria Island, Lagos.
