Ìbàdàn International Film Festival (IIFF) returns for its third edition this September
Having received over 3,000 submissions from more than 150 countries, this year’s Ìbàdàn International Film Festival will take place from September 19th - 21st, 2024, at theBUNKer, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ìbàdàn International Film Festival (IIFF), a premier event dedicated to celebrating the art of filmmaking in Nigeria and beyond, will return this September for its third edition
The IIFF is a three-day event for editors, directors, artists, cameramen, industry professionals, film lovers and enthusiasts, where some of the best new short and feature films from all over the world are showcased and screened. According to IIFF, films submitted are discussed by directors, distributors, actors, movie producers and the participating audience.
IIFF, an initiative of Black Pride Empire, was conceived to provide a platform for films and filmmakers from different film markets, within and outside the boundaries of Nigeria, to spotlight and showcase their craft within the Ibadan Metropolis. “IIFF will also afford young and upcoming filmmakers the opportunity to display their excellent works and bring their talents to the limelight,” it adds.

IIFF says it offers a platform for filmmakers from all over the world to showcase their work, promoting cultural exchange and elevating African cinema on the global stage. “The festival is committed to recognising a broad spectrum of talent, with categories covering various aspects of filmmaking, from feature films to animation and student projects,” it notes. “The IIFF looks forward to welcoming filmmakers, cinema lovers, and the broader public to this celebration of cinematic excellence.”
This year’s festival will take place from September 19th - 21st, 2024, at theBUNKer Ibadan, 49 MKO Abiola Way, Ibadan, Oyo State, and will feature thought-provoking panel discussions, film screenings, awards, immersive workshops, and unparalleled networking opportunities.

Announcing the official selections for this year’s edition of the festival, IIFF notes, “With over 3,000 submissions from more than 150 countries, the 2024 IIFF promises to be an extraordinary celebration of global cinematic talent, with a strong emphasis on Nigerian and African storytelling.”
According to IIFF, Jagun Jagun (The Warrior), a powerful Nigerian feature, leads the nominations with seven nods, followed closely by the Iranian film Pregnant, with five nominations, and Golden Blood from Iran, with four. “These nominations reflect the festival's commitment to showcasing a diverse array of voices and narratives from across the globe,” it noted.
“The diversity and depth of the films we've selected are truly remarkable. Each submission underwent a rigorous screening process, and the final selections are a testament to the global talent in the film industry,” said Ogunlade Usman Blackky, a renowned filmmaker and the Convener of IIFF. “We're particularly proud to see Nigerian films like Jagun Jagun leading the nominations, as it highlights the strength and potential of African cinema on the world stage.”
“The 2024 IIFF is not just about showcasing films; it’s about creating a space for dialogue, learning, and collaboration,” Festival Director Babatunde Ojobaro, who is also a well-known comedian, actor, and theatre practitioner, said, speaking on the significance of this year’s festival. “We have an incredible lineup of panel discussions, workshops, and networking events that will offer filmmakers and attendees the opportunity to engage with the industry in meaningful ways. This festival is a celebration of cinema in all its forms, and we're excited to welcome everyone to Ibadan.”
