G.A.S. Foundation announces open call for the 2024 Tilga Art Prize Nigeria Edition
The Tilga Art Prize is open to artists between the ages of 18 and 30 working and living in Nigeria, or of Nigerian descent.
Guest Artist Space Foundation (G.A.S.) has announced its partnership with Tilga Art Prize to host the winner of the annual open call at G.A.S. for an all-expenses paid residency.
Now in its 5th annual edition with 20 Finalists awarded, the Tilga Art Fund (Tilga Art Prize) was created by Wally Bakare to support and foster criticality, broaden artistic practice, and engage new and exciting modes of art-making among young contemporary African artists.
According to the announcement, the Prize is open to artists between the ages of 18 and 30 working and living in Nigeria, or of Nigerian descent.
“Applicants are invited to submit proposals as individuals or as groups across a variety of creative disciplines that include photography, painting, sculpture, illustration or multidisciplinary arts,” the announcement noted.

Four artists will be selected as finalists and allocated this year’s prizes, per the announcement. “1st Prize winner will receive $4,000 and an all-expenses-paid residency at G.A.S. Lagos or the G.A.S. Farm House, while the 2nd Prize, 3rd Prize, and 4th Prize winners will receive $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 respectively,” it shared.
It added that “Additional benefits include mentorship by established artists, salons hosted by renowned Nigerian collectors and global publicity by all supporting partners.”
Application Requirement
Individuals interested in making an application will need to supply the following:
A CV or Resume
One reference letter from tutors, artists and/or art professionals
A portfolio of 6 to 8 digital images of most recent artworks or videos
A conceptual proposal to create artwork addressing any of the following social issues in Nigeria: poverty, youth unemployment or insecurity
