ART X Lagos reveals the top 10 finalists for the 2023 Access ART X Prize
The prize will be awarded to 2 winners: a Nigerian artist and an African/Diasporan artist. The winners will get residency opportunities and $10,000 grants each towards exhibitions at ART X Lagos 2024
Following the initial round of selection by the Access ART X Prize 2023 jury made up of Babajide Adeniyi-Jones, Daudi Karungi, Gabi Ngcobo, Emeka Ogboh, Barthélémy Toguo, Yesomi Umolu, and the Prize Curator, Jumoke Sanwo, ART X Lagos has revealed the top 10 finalists for this year’s prize.
According to the announcement, the African/Diasporan finalists are Lawrence Mwangi, Edward Prah, Dior Thiam, Asmaa Jama, and Anne Mutema. The Nigerian finalists are Wale Matuluko, Roanna Tella, Julius Agbaje, Chinwe Chigbu, and Chidimma Nwafor.
The prize will be awarded to two (2) winners: a Nigerian artist and an African/Diasporan artist. The winners will get residency opportunities at Gasworks London and Yinka Shonibare’s GAS Foundation in Lagos and $10,000 grants each towards exhibitions at ART X Lagos 2024; and mentoring to support their emergence on the global stage.

Created by ART X Lagos and sponsored by Access Corporation, the Access ART X Prize awards early-career artists from Africa and its diaspora opportunities to develop their practices, with the intention of setting them up for the highest levels of success on the global stage.
Previous winners of the prize include Dafe Oboro (2022 Nigerian Winner), Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński (2022 African/Diasporan Winner), Chigozie Obi (2021), Etinosa Yvonne (2019), Bolatito Aderemi-Ibitola (2018), Habeeb Andu (2017), and Patrick Akpojotor (2016).
