This year’s edition of Comic Con Ibadan will feature Cosplays, Masterclasses, Exhibitions, Performances, Cocktails, Food, Awards, Networking, and the "As Above, So Below Digital Art Competition”
The organiser of Comic Con Ibadan—the official convention and geek event of West Africa's largest city, showcasing comics, animations, and related creative content by Africans—has announced it will return for a second edition this March (2024).
“As an entertainment-related event, we provide a platform for creators, consumers, creatives, and contributors within the African comics and animation ecosystem to connect, network, and build relationships leading to years-long fandom,” it stated.
With over 1,000 attendees recorded in the first-ever edition—which took place last year (2023)—this year’s edition will feature Cosplays, Masterclasses, Exhibitions, Performances, Cocktails, Food, Awards, Networking, and much more, and is set to take place on Saturday, March 30th, 2024 at Western Hall, Oyo State Parliamentary Building Complex, State Secretariat, Ibadan.
The convention, which aims to be the epicentre of Afrofuturistic art, will bring recognition to creators and studios blazing the trail in the African comics ecosystem through its annual nominations and awards ceremony, and the Artists' Alley.
In addition to this year’s event, CCI in conjunction with O Kingdom Come, an award-winning Pan African comic book studio, and CG Africa, a leading online animation community in Africa, is hosting “As Above, So Below Digital Art Competition”, a digital art competition for daring comic artists.
Per the announcement, the top 3 winners will win a sum of 500 USD each. Winners will be announced and awarded at the event.
