BrushTu announces participating artists in the first cohort of its AIRBRUSH Residency 2023 program
The 2023 residency is designed to advance the participating visual artists’ practice and grow the reach of their audience. It will admit 2 cohorts of residents from the East African region.
Brush Tu Artist Collective, a Kenyan-based Artist collective aiming to advance and promote creative expressions in the area of Visual Arts, announced Achola Rosario, Namikoye Wanjala and Sherie Margaret Ngigi will be participating in the first cohort of its AIRBRUSH Residency 2023 program.
The AIRBRUSH (Artist In Residency at Brush Tu) residency program is an artist-run residency which takes place at the Brush Tu collective’s studio space in Buruburu- Nairobi, Kenya.
According to Brush Tu, the residency has been in existence since 2017 and has hosted over 15 visual artists from different countries including Kenya, Rwanda, Benin, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Madagascar. It added that “The workshops component of the residency which has seen 6 workshops facilitated by seasoned professionals has benefited over 40 participants since inception of the program.”
In the open call earlier shared, it stated that “The 2023 residency is designed to advance the participating visual artists’ practice and grow the reach of their audience. It will admit 2 cohorts of residents from the East African region, each running for a period of 3 months from May to December.” It also added that “Each cohort will comprise of a maximum of 3 artists who are expected to create new and exciting work using the media of their choice. At the end of their residency period, this work will then be exhibited at an open studio event within the premise.”
The AIRBRUSH program is supported by a grant from Ignite Culture: ACP-EU Culture Program (Eastern Africa). This fund is being implemented by HEVA, in partnership with the British Council Kenya with the financial contribution of the European Union, and with further support from the Organization of ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) States. It is part of the global ACP-EU Culture Program.
